Is anyone else noticing a shift in how projects are being greenlit?

It feels like the bar for new initiatives has gotten incredibly high, or maybe just completely arbitrary. Projects that seemed like no-brainers a year ago are now facing intense scrutiny, requiring endless justification and data points. Meanwhile, other, less critical things seem to get rubber-stamped without much pushback. It's making it really difficult for teams to plan and execute. You pour effort into a proposal, only for it to get bogged down in review cycles that feel like they're designed to find reasons *not* to do it. Is this a company-wide thing, or are certain departments just facing stricter oversight? It's hard to tell, and the lack of clear reasoning is frustrating.

I've definitely seen something similar. It's like there's a new gatekeeper or a new set of rules that aren't being communicated clearly. The uncertainty is the killer; you spend so much time trying to guess what the 'right' answer is for the review board instead of focusing on the actual project merits. Makes you wonder if the criteria are even consistent from one week to the next, or if it's more about who's pushing for it behind the scenes.

Could it be related to the current economic climate or a strategic pivot that hasn't been fully disseminated? Sometimes these shifts happen quietly. It's frustrating, for sure. The lack of transparency makes it hard to adapt. Perhaps a company-wide town hall or a clearer memo outlining the new decision-making framework would help immensely, rather than letting teams flounder in this kind of ambiguity.
