Anyone else see the 'restructuring' email? 1,600 roles gone

Woke up to my laptop being locked and an invite to a 'briefing' that was already in progress. It’s absolutely brutal. I’ve been here for three years and honestly thought the team was safe because we were hitting every single delivery milestone. They’re calling this a 'strategic pivot to increase efficiency,' but it feels like they’re just thinning the herd to boost the quarterly numbers before the next earnings call. The worst part is the silence. My manager was just as blindsided as I was; he found out ten minutes before the rest of us. If you’re still logged in, start grabbing your documentation and personal files now. I’ve heard from a few people in other departments that the cuts are deep across engineering and marketing. Don’t trust the 'business as usual' rhetoric coming from the Slack channels today. If you’re on the chopping block, make sure you get your severance details in writing before you sign anything. Stay safe out there, everyone.

The corporate speak is what gets me. 'Strategic pivot' is just a cold way of saying they’re discarding people to make the balance sheet look better for shareholders. It’s genuinely awful that your manager was left in the dark too. Atlassian used to pride itself on a different kind of culture, but this feels like every other faceless tech giant now. Take some time for yourself, because this is not a reflection of your work or your value. It’s purely a numbers game, and it’s heartless.

I am so sorry you’re going through this. I’ve seen this script play out at other companies, and the 'efficiency' excuse is always the go-to line when leadership wants to inflate margins before an earnings report. It’s incredibly unprofessional to handle layoffs by locking laptops without a human conversation first. You hit your milestones, you did your job, and you deserve better treatment than being treated like a line item in a spreadsheet. Keep your head up—this speaks volumes about their current priorities, not your talent.
