Anyone else's team scope completely blown up post-layoffs?

Hey everyone, posting anonymously here. So, the June 19th layoffs hit my department pretty hard. I'm in Product Management, been here 5 years. The weird thing is, it wasn't just the people who left, but our entire roadmap and team responsibilities seem to have been absorbed by other, smaller teams. My skip-level meeting last week was basically an hour of 'synergies' and 'efficiency gains,' but it feels like we're drowning. Projects that used to have dedicated owners are now split 5 ways with no clear leadership. Anyone else seeing this? Is this a deliberate strategy to squeeze more out of the remaining staff, or just chaos?

Wow, that sounds incredibly stressful. It's completely understandable that you're feeling overwhelmed. The 'synergies' and 'efficiency gains' jargon often masks a massive increase in workload for the remaining folks. It’s tough when restructuring leads to distributed ownership without clear accountability. Have you tried documenting the increased scope and presenting it to your manager with specific examples of what's slipping or becoming unmanageable? Sometimes data can cut through the buzzwords.

Been there. My team lost half its members, and suddenly we were expected to pick up the slack on projects that were already challenging. The 'doing more with less' mantra is real, and it usually means burning out the people who are left. Management often doesn't grasp the actual capacity of a team until it's too late. Focus on what you can realistically achieve and be prepared to say 'no' or push back on unrealistic expectations, even if it feels difficult.
