Leadership gaslighting us about the 'strategic pivot'

Is anyone else feeling the whiplash today? We spent all of last year hearing about how our headcount was perfectly aligned for the long-term vision, and then suddenly, 1,600 people are out the door in a single morning. It’s hard to swallow the 'optimizing for the future' line when you look at the faces of the colleagues we just lost. The town hall was a joke—pre-recorded slides, zero room for actual tough questions, and the usual corporate jargon about efficiency. Everyone knows this is just about cleaning up the balance sheet before the next quarterly report. It’s impossible to feel secure when the 'Team Anywhere' dream is clearly secondary to keeping the stock price propped up for investors. I’ve got friends in Engineering who had stellar performance reviews last month and were still caught in the crossfire. If you’re still here, look after yourselves, but don't drink the kool-aid. The company culture feels like it’s been gutted overnight, and I’m already checking my options.

The dissonance between the 'Team Anywhere' culture and these sudden, cold-blooded cuts is staggering. Leadership keeps pushing this narrative of a bold strategic pivot, but it feels more like they’re just burning the house down to collect the insurance money. We were promised transparency and human-centric values, yet we got a pre-recorded video and a locked Slack channel. It’s impossible to trust the long-term vision when the people who built it are treated as disposable line items in a spreadsheet. The morale isn't just low; it's effectively nonexistent at this point.

Honestly, stop looking for honesty in the town halls. At this scale, it’s all just sanitized PR meant to keep the stock price from cratering. They’ve been pivoting every six months for years, so this is just the latest flavor of corporate instability. If you’re still waiting for a 'real' answer from the execs, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. Best move is to keep your head down, refresh your resume, and stop pretending the company owes you any loyalty. The 'One Atlassian' dream died a long time ago.
