Has anyone heard rumors about O&M budget cuts for Q4?

I’ve been hearing a lot of chatter lately about tightening the belt on discretionary spending across the regional offices. We keep getting told that the dividend is safe and everything is business as usual, but the tone in leadership meetings is shifting. They’ve frozen several open requisitions in our department that were supposed to be filled months ago, and they aren't giving us a straight answer on why. It feels like they're preparing for a headcount reduction without actually saying the words. Is anyone else seeing these hiring freezes in your respective divisions, or is my department just being singled out for 'optimization'? I’ve been here for a few years and the shift in transparency is making me nervous. Trying to figure out if I should start polishing the resume now or if I’m just being paranoid.

I’m seeing the same thing in my department. They stopped all non-essential travel and pushed back our equipment upgrades until next fiscal year, but keep insisting it's just 'operational efficiency.' It’s hard to stay focused when every town hall meeting is just a series of deflections and corporate talking points. If they’re planning to trim the fat, I wish they’d just be transparent about it so we aren’t all left guessing what the future looks like after Q4.

Honestly, the writing is on the wall. Whenever leadership starts obsessing over 'discretionary spending' while freezing job requisitions, a layoff is usually right around the corner. I’ve survived a few of these cycles here, and the pattern is always identical: they promise stability while quietly cutting the resources we need to do our jobs. Just keep your resume updated and watch how they handle the year-end reviews; that’s usually where the real picture becomes clear.
