Same thing is happening in my district. We were told to tighten up on labor hours weeks ago, and suddenly nobody is talking about the usual hiring surge for the summer rush. It feels like they are squeezing every last cent of efficiency out of the front line to make the numbers look better for investors. The turnover rate is already high enough, but if they cut deeper into our support staff, the remaining team is going to burn out before the end of the quarter. Watch your back.
Honestly, the constant obsession with P&L reports has made the workplace environment pretty toxic lately. My manager used to be transparent, but now they dodge every question about the budget or store-level changes. It feels like they are prepping for a round of layoffs or restructuring without wanting to spook anyone prematurely. I’ve started updating my resume just in case, because whenever corporate starts acting this secretive and stingy with payroll, it rarely ends well for the actual store employees.
