I was in the middle of a project sprint when the emails started going out. It’s absolutely gut-wrenching to watch talented teammates walk out with their boxes while leadership pretends everything is fine. Eight years is a lifetime in this industry, and the lack of transparency is exactly why morale is at an all-time low. I’ve seen enough cycles to know that 'restructuring' is just the corporate code for cutting people to juice the next quarterly report. It’s hard to stay loyal when you’re treated like a line item on a spreadsheet.
Honestly, if you’re still surprised by this, you haven’t been paying attention to the pattern. It’s brutal, cold, and calculated every single time. Instead of waiting for the axe to fall, maybe it’s time to start looking elsewhere. I jumped ship a few months ago after the last round, and the relief of not having to guess if I’d have a job on Monday morning is priceless. Baker isn’t going to change, and they certainly don't care about the 'morgue' atmosphere. Don't let them drain you; look out for yourself.
