Verona facility closure: The writing was on the wall?

It’s been a rough week for the team in Verona. Watching those 146 colleagues get the boot right at the end of the year is honestly gut-wrenching. I’ve been hearing rumblings about capacity issues for months, but seeing the WARN notice finally go through makes it real. Some of the folks impacted have been there for over a decade. Does anyone have any insight into how the severance packages are actually looking? HR is being tight-lipped as usual, and the vibe in the office is just pure anxiety. Are we looking at more consolidation in Q1, or is this the end of the downsizing for the packaging division? I’m starting to think my own department might be on the chopping block next. Just trying to figure out if I should start prepping my resume now or wait until the next town hall. This corporate strategy is exhausting.

I am so sorry to hear this. It feels like every time Ball reports 'strategic realignment' in their quarterly calls, the floor workers are the ones left holding the bag. I’ve survived two rounds of layoffs at my site over the last few years, and the severance is never enough to cover the loss of a decade of seniority. Keep a close eye on the paperwork they give you—don't sign anything immediately. If you have a union rep, get them involved right now before you leave the building for the final time.

Honestly, the writing has been on the wall for months. Between the market volatility and the shift in their packaging strategy, production sites were always going to be the first to face the chopping block. It’s a brutal way to end the year, especially with the current economic climate making it so hard to pivot into new roles. Just focus on your own mental health right now and reach out to your local workforce development agencies early. The severance packages are usually standard corporate minimums, so manage your expectations accordingly.
