Cloud buildout and job security in tech

Saw the news about BoA saving $2B a year on their cloud buildout. That's a massive amount. On one hand, it's impressive and probably good for the company's bottom line. On the other hand, I'm in an IT role that's heavily reliant on the infrastructure that's being 'built out.' Does anyone know if this internal cloud strategy has led to reduced headcount in areas like traditional infrastructure management or vendor-specific roles? Or is it more about shifting skills and creating new roles within the cloud space? Trying to gauge where things are heading for tech roles here.

That's a great question. While cost savings are definitely a major driver for these cloud initiatives, the impact on job security is a genuine concern for many. From what I've seen and heard, companies like BoA are often looking to consolidate and automate. This typically means a shift away from manual, on-premise infrastructure management. However, it doesn't always mean outright layoffs. Often, it's about retraining and upskilling existing staff to manage cloud environments, security, and new platform development. Keep an eye on internal training programs and consider acquiring cloud certifications yourself.
