So, I have a buddy in HR, and we grabbed drinks last night. He basically confirmed that the hiring freeze is being extended indefinitely. They're not using the word 'layoffs' yet, but he said they're 'restructuring' and 'optimizing efficiency' – you know, the usual corporate BS. He hinted that certain departments are being looked at more closely than others, specifically mentioning some overlaps since the last acquisition. I'm in compliance, and honestly, I'm starting to sweat. Anyone else hearing similar rumblings? What departments are you guys in and what's the vibe?

Thanks for the heads up! That 'restructuring' talk always makes my stomach churn. My department is pretty lean already, so I'm hoping we're safe, but you never know. I went through something similar at Wells Fargo a few years back; the waiting was the worst part. Definitely brush up your resume and start discreetly networking, just in case. Better to be prepared than caught off guard. Good luck!

Take everything with a grain of salt. HR rumors are notoriously unreliable. Remember last quarter when everyone swore bonuses were getting slashed? Turned out to be completely false. Companies are *always* 'restructuring' something. I'm not saying your friend is lying, but until it's official, try not to stress too much. Focus on your work and keep delivering. Performance is the best job security.
