Feeling uneasy about the 'strategic alignment' emails

Got another 'strategic alignment' email this morning from leadership. It’s always the same corporate buzzword bingo—talking about 'sharpening our focus' and 'streamlining our go-to-market strategy.' If you’ve been at BBW long enough, you know this is the precursor to a bad Friday. The atmosphere in the office feels weirdly heavy this week, and the Slack channels are suspiciously quiet. I’ve noticed a few people in my department updating their LinkedIn profiles, which is never a great sign. It feels like we’re waiting for the other shoe to drop. I’m just trying to figure out if I’m being paranoid or if the writing is truly on the wall. Does anyone actually buy the 'record growth' narrative when we are simultaneously being told to cut costs on basic office supplies and software licenses? It feels like we are being set up for a massive downsizing event before the fiscal year ends. If you’re seeing anything, please speak up. This transparency is nonexistent.

I've seen this cycle play out at BBW more times than I can count. Every time they start tossing around 'strategic alignment' and 'streamlining,' it is time to check your emergency fund. It really is a shame because the brand is still such a powerhouse, but the corporate culture has become incredibly transparent about these mass layoffs. Don't wait for the calendar invite to appear on a Friday afternoon; trust your gut and start putting feelers out now. If the office feels like a graveyard, it’s usually because the writing is already on the wall for a lot of people.

Honestly, try not to spiral until you have actual confirmation. Corporate speak is exhausting, but it doesn't always automatically mean a bloodbath is coming for your specific team. That being said, it is always smart to keep your resume polished regardless of what the leadership emails say. If everyone is acting weird, just keep your head down, do your job, and focus on your own stability. Being paranoid won't help you, but being prepared will. Just take a deep breath and see what happens over the next few days.
