Is the home office headcount getting trimmed?

I’ve been seeing a lot of empty desks on my floor lately, and the vibe during yesterday’s all-hands felt off. Usually, leadership is all about the energy and the 'growth mindset' talk, but yesterday it felt like they were reading from a script and avoiding the hard questions about the Q3 targets. I’ve noticed a few people from my department haven’t been active on Teams for a couple of days, and when I asked a manager, they just gave me the 'working on independent projects' line. That’s the classic red flag. We’ve been hearing rumors about 'optimizing operational efficiency' for weeks now, and we all know what that usually translates to in retail corporate. Has anyone else heard anything concrete about restructuring, or are we just experiencing the usual end-of-quarter stress? I'm trying to figure out if I should start updating my resume this weekend or if I'm just being paranoid because of the industry climate right now.

That 'independent projects' line is corporate speak for 'don't ask questions while we figure out your exit package.' I’ve been through this cycle before at the home office. When leadership switches to scripted, emotionless updates, it’s usually because the RIFs are already in motion and they’re just waiting for the PR dust to settle. Keep your head down, update your resume tonight, and don't expect any transparency until the emails go out. It’s definitely not just you noticing the empty desks.

Honestly, the energy has been completely tanked for weeks. It’s hard to stay focused on 'growth mindset' when you're watching colleagues disappear from the directory without a goodbye message. If your manager is dodging the topic, they likely know exactly what's happening but are under strict instructions to keep quiet. The silence on Q3 targets is the biggest red flag—they aren't talking because there isn't a good answer. Just look out for yourself, save your work, and prepare for some restructuring announcements sooner rather than later.
