Is the August 30th date the end, or just the beginning?

Watching the latest WARN notice for the Milwaukee facility hit the wire has me feeling like a sitting duck. 32 people gone on Aug 30th feels like a targeted trim, but we all know how this company operates. It’s never just one group. I’ve been hearing whispers about the Q3 targets being missed and leadership starting to make noise about 'streamlining core operations' again. Has anyone in other regions seen the writing on the wall? My manager has been completely MIA for the last week and I’m half-expecting to be locked out of my email by Monday morning. The culture here has shifted so much lately; it used to be about patient outcomes, now it’s purely about looking good for the next earnings call. If you’re at one of the sites that wasn't on the notice, are you doing anything to prep, or are we all just waiting for the next invite to a mandatory 'all-hands' meeting that turns out to be a 10-minute layoff call?

I was at a site that went through a similar 'streamlining' phase last year, and honestly, the August date is almost certainly just the opening act. When leadership starts using phrases like 'core operations' in internal memos, it’s usually code for a multi-quarter reduction plan. The MIA manager is a classic tell—they either know exactly what’s coming and are hiding, or they’ve been pulled into confidential briefings about the next round of cuts. Update your resume now and start networking outside the company while you still have the luxury of time.

Don't panic yet, but definitely keep your head on a swivel. Baxter has a long history of these rolling layoffs where they announce a small, manageable number to keep the rest of the workforce from jumping ship all at once. If they missed Q3 targets, the pressure from shareholders will force them to cut deeper to protect margins before the fiscal year ends. If your manager is dodging you, take it as a sign to look for internal transfers or external opportunities immediately. Silence from above is rarely a good sign in this industry.
