The pressure to sign is definitely tactical. They want those releases signed before people realize the full scope of what they’re forfeiting. If you’re being pushed, it’s a sign they want to avoid a paper trail or potential legal scrutiny. Don’t cave just because of their arbitrary deadline. Most employment attorneys will tell you that you have more breathing room than HR claims. If you have any tenure at all, it’s worth at least a quick consultation before signing away your rights. They’re banking on everyone being too stressed to fight back.
I was part of the previous reduction and this current offer is significantly thinner than what we saw back then. It feels like they are tightening the belt across the board, and unfortunately, the severance reflects that downward trend. I haven't heard of anyone successfully negotiating the base package—they seem to be holding firm on the 'standard' script to avoid setting any precedents. It’s frustrating, but it seems like a strictly 'take it or leave it' situation this time around. Good luck to everyone navigating this mess; it’s a tough spot to be in.
