Feeling the burnout after the latest round

Ever since the latest cuts were announced, the morale at my store is basically non-existent. We’re losing staff, not replacing them, and yet the sales targets remain exactly the same. It’s impossible to provide any kind of quality service when you’re sprinting between three different departments just to keep the lights on. I feel for the people who got hit in Oshkosh, but I’m worried about those of us left in the trenches. They expect us to be product experts, stockers, and loss prevention all at once. I spent my entire shift yesterday just putting out fires because we didn't have enough bodies to cover the floor. Is it like this everywhere, or is my leadership just particularly bad at managing the fallout? I’m seriously considering jumping ship to literally anywhere else, even if it’s a pay cut. At least I wouldn't go home feeling like I’m constantly being set up to fail by corporate expectations.

I’m right there with you. It feels like they are intentionally thinning us out to see how much we can handle before the whole system breaks. I spent my entire shift yesterday running between appliances and home theater because we didn’t have enough coverage, and honestly, the customers could tell. The quality of service is plummeting, and it’s exhausting to pretend everything is fine. Management just keeps pushing these unrealistic credit card and membership goals like nothing is changing. I’m looking for an exit strategy because this ship is sinking fast.

That is the harsh reality of the current strategy. They don’t want experts anymore; they want bodies that can multitask while managing to look busy. When you’re spread that thin, you stop caring about the customer experience and start focusing entirely on just getting through the shift without a mental breakdown. It’s a lose-lose situation for everyone involved. Don’t burn yourself out for a company that would replace you in a heartbeat without thinking twice. Keep your head down, do the bare minimum, and spend your actual energy finding something better.
