Geek Squad and other departments - what's the real story?

Seeing a lot of chatter online, especially on places like HN, about Geek Squad layoffs. A few years back, there were also rumors about restructuring and cuts. My store hasn't had any official announcements, but the workload definitely feels different. Fewer staff on the floor, and some roles seem to be consolidating. I've heard whispers from people who know people about reduced hours or people being moved around to cover gaps. Has anyone actually been laid off recently, or know someone who has, specifically from Geek Squad or maybe even warehouse/logistics? Trying to separate rumor from reality here because the silence from corporate is deafening and honestly, a bit unsettling. Any firsthand accounts would be appreciated.

I haven't heard anything official at my location either, but the vibe is definitely off. It feels like we're being asked to do more with less, and customer wait times are starting to show it. Some of the guys I used to work closely with on the sales floor have been moved to different departments entirely, supposedly to 'optimize coverage'. Not sure what that really means in the long run, but it feels like a precursor to something bigger.

Yeah, the whispers are out there. I know a couple of people who were shifted out of their specialized roles into more general customer service positions. They said their hours got cut significantly, and they're not even sure if they'll be kept on long-term. It's a tough environment right now, and you can feel the pressure to maintain sales numbers while also handling more diverse tasks. Hopefully, things stabilize soon.
