Geek Squad cuts impacting service levels?

The Hacker News thread about Geek Squad layoffs got me thinking. Has anyone noticed a dip in service quality or longer wait times for Geek Squad appointments recently? Seems like they're a pretty crucial part of the Best Buy experience, especially for those who aren't super tech-savvy. If they're cutting significant numbers there, it's bound to have an impact somewhere. Wondering if this is a strategic move to push more online support or if they're just trying to trim costs everywhere they can. Curious to hear from anyone who's interacted with Geek Squad lately or works in that division.

I haven't personally had a Geek Squad appointment in a while, but I definitely feel like I'm hearing more grumbles from friends and colleagues about longer hold times or appointments being harder to get. It's a shame if quality is suffering because they really are a lifeline for a lot of people who just want their tech to work without a headache. Hopefully, it's a temporary blip and not a permanent decline in a valuable service.

It makes sense that cutting staff in a customer-facing role like Geek Squad would lead to service impacts. I've noticed wait times can be pretty unpredictable even in the best of times. My guess is they're hoping people will just default to self-help resources or online troubleshooting, which is fine for simple issues but doesn't really cut it when you've got a complex problem or need hands-on help. Definitely a concern for the overall customer experience.
