Is the pivot to 'efficiency' actually working?

I’ve been at Bio-Rad for a few years now, and the shift in tone is palpable. Every time we hear about these 'strategic priorities,' it just translates to more heads on the chopping block in Life Sciences. Leadership keeps talking about long-term growth, but how can we grow when we keep losing the institutional knowledge of the people who actually maintain our pipelines? I’m genuinely curious if anyone in middle management actually believes the 'efficiency' rhetoric anymore, or if we’re all just waiting for the next shoe to drop. The morale at the Seattle site was already hanging by a thread, and these latest cuts just confirmed the worst fears for a lot of people. Is there any department that feels safe at this point, or is it just a matter of time for all of us?

Management is just reading from a script they were handed months ago. They don't actually believe the efficiency metrics are going to drive innovation, but they are too terrified of the board to push back. It's become a hollow cycle of headcount reductions followed by desperate attempts to backfill roles with contractors who have no idea how our internal systems function. The institutional knowledge bleed is real, and it is going to make the next product rollout an absolute nightmare for the teams left behind. We are effectively cannibalizing our own future to meet quarterly targets that nobody will even remember in a year.
