Anyone else notice the hiring freeze across R&D?

Is it just me, or has the recruiting portal been dead silent for weeks? I’ve been keeping an eye on the open roles in my department and several that were 'in progress' have just vanished. Management keeps sending out these 'operational excellence' emails about streamlining our pipeline, but we all know what that actually means. I spoke to a colleague in HR who was pretty tight-lipped, but they mentioned that the Q3 spending targets are looking really aggressive. I feel like we’re all just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Has anyone heard anything specific from their managers, or are we all just operating in this weird 'business as usual' vacuum? It’s getting hard to stay focused when you’re constantly checking your email waiting for that one calendar invite that says 'Briefing' with no description.

I’ve been tracking the same thing. Those 'operational excellence' emails are a massive red flag. When roles vanish from the portal without a word, it’s rarely a technical glitch—it’s a budget freeze dressed up as corporate efficiency. I’m in the same boat, seeing projects get shelved and headcount essentially locked down. At this point, I’m just preparing for the worst and keeping my resume updated, because management never admits to a hiring freeze until they’re already halfway through the layoffs.

Honestly, don't hold your breath for any transparency. Biogen has a long history of these 'streamlining' phases that end in quiet exits. If the portal is dead, it’s dead for a reason. The Q3 targets are clearly putting immense pressure on leadership to cut costs fast, and R&D is always the first place they look when they need to balance the books for the shareholders. It’s stressful, but try not to let the silence get to you—just focus on your own pivot if things don't look better by next month.
