Middle management looks nervous

I don't want to start any rumors, but I’ve noticed a lot of 'off-site' meetings for the regional managers lately. Every time I walk past the conference rooms, the mood is noticeably tense. I’ve been with BJ's for over five years, and usually, the leadership is pretty transparent about project pipelines, but now it's all 'hush-hush' and closed doors. My direct supervisor seems completely out of the loop and has been unusually quiet during our 1:1s. It feels like they’re preparing for a transition, and honestly, the silence is worse than a straight-up announcement. If they are planning a cull, I wish they’d just rip the band-aid off so we can stop wasting energy guessing if our roles are safe. Anyone else seeing this pattern in their district?

I’ve been seeing the exact same thing at my location. The regional team stopped doing their usual walkthroughs, and now they just huddle in the back office for hours behind closed doors. It definitely feels like there’s a major shift coming, possibly a corporate restructuring or another round of layoffs. My department manager has been acting like they’re walking on eggshells too. It’s hard to stay motivated when you feel like the floor is about to drop out from under you, but honestly, at this point, I’m just trying to keep my head down and collect my check until we hear something official.

You aren't imagining things. Corporate has been tightening the budget across the board, and whenever they start acting this secretive, it usually means bad news for store-level operations. I remember this exact atmosphere right before they trimmed the management staff a few years back. The lack of communication is the most frustrating part—they want us to keep pushing membership numbers and inventory while they hide behind closed doors. Don't be surprised if we hear about a big organizational shake-up within the next month or two. It’s probably time to polish the resume just in case.
