Any truth to the rumors about a Q4 reduction?

I’m seeing a lot of chatter on the internal boards about potential 'structural changes' hitting before the year ends. I know we saw the headlines about the 500-person cut back in 2023, but it feels like the current sentiment is even heavier. My skip-level mentioned that we need to be prepared for a 'leaner environment' heading into 2025. That’s corporate-speak for headcount reduction, right? Has anyone else picked up on specific departments being targeted? I work in the institutional side and everything feels stagnant. No new requisitions, and they've frozen backfilling for two roles in my immediate team. Usually, that’s the first sign that the budget is being tightened to prepare for a severance package cycle. I’m just trying to figure out if I need to start polishing the resume this weekend or if I’m overreacting to standard quarterly posturing. If anyone has seen any credible leaks or heard something from someone in HR, please drop it here. Anonymous is fine, obviously. Just trying to stay ahead of the curve.

The 'leaner environment' language is definitely a red flag. Every time leadership starts using that terminology, it’s just a matter of time before the severance packages drop. I’ve heard whispers about the tech and operations wings being the main targets this time around to offset the push toward AI automation. Honestly, it’s getting hard to trust the official line when the internal sentiment is this bleak. Keep your resume updated and make sure you’ve backed up any relevant files just in case things go south quickly.

Honestly, don't read too much into the doom-scrolling on the internal forums. People love to stir up anxiety whenever budget season rolls around. I’ve been through three of these 'structural changes' over the years, and while headcount adjustments happen, the panic is usually way worse than the reality. Institutional is a core pillar of the business, so you’re likely safer than the speculative gossip suggests. Just keep your head down, focus on your deliverables, and try to ignore the rumor mill until management actually puts out a formal memo.
