Are we expecting another round before year-end?

It feels like the firm has been trimming non-core roles for a few months now, but 140 heads in one go is a pretty loud signal. Does anyone in the trenches have a read on whether this is the 'big one' or if there’s a Phase 2 coming in Q1? The messaging from leadership has been so vague about 'optimizing efficiency,' which we all know is just code for cutting costs to keep the margins looking pretty for investors. Personally, I’m seeing teams that were fully staffed in September suddenly getting really lean, and the vibe in the office—for those still coming in—is incredibly tense. I'm wondering if I should start actively looking now while I still have the leverage of a paycheck, or if I’m just being paranoid because of the current news cycle. Given the market volatility, it feels like nobody is safe unless you're directly tied to a flagship deal team. Curious if anyone heard anything during their town halls about budget reallocations.

The 'optimizing efficiency' line is corporate speak for cleaning house before the annual report drops. If you are seeing teams thinned out already, don't expect a reprieve in Q1. Leadership is clearly prioritizing margin protection over headcount stability to keep shareholders happy through the volatility. It is safer to assume the current pattern is just the first wave and that more targeted cuts are coming once the dust settles on the end-of-year bonuses. Keep your resume updated.

Honestly, the lack of transparency is the most frustrating part. Everyone is playing a guessing game while the firm quietly trims the fat. Based on how things have been moving, I wouldn't bet on a 'Phase 2' being a separate event; it feels more like a continuous bleed until they hit their desired target. If your team is already feeling the pinch, treat it as a warning sign. It is definitely time to start networking elsewhere because this slow-burn approach rarely stops until the bottom line looks exactly how they want it.
