Anyone else at Block feel blindsided by this latest cut?

Just saw the news about the layoffs at Block, and honestly, I'm still trying to process it. It feels like just yesterday we were all talking about growth and new initiatives. Now, thousands are out. The official reason is 'efficiency gains' and 'streamlining operations', which sounds like corporate speak for something else. I've heard whispers about the impact of newer technologies, but the scale of this feels extreme. It's hard not to worry about what this means for the remaining teams and the company's direction. Did anyone get any heads-up or see this coming? Feels like a massive shift, and the uncertainty is really unnerving right now. Just looking for some honest takes from others in the same boat or who have insights.

Yeah, blindsided is the word. The 'efficiency gains' line feels particularly hollow when you see the human cost. It's tough to reconcile the talk of innovation and future plans with this kind of drastic restructuring. Completely agree. It's a shock, especially with how things were being presented internally. The stated reasons don't quite add up given the recent focus on expansion in certain areas. The speed and scale of this layoff round are unsettling, and the implications for company culture and morale moving forward are significant. A lot of talented people are affected.
