Anyone else getting nervous about headcount?

I'm on the Square side, been here almost 4 years. I know the company line is always 'growth' but lately things feel... different. My team's budget got slashed pretty hard, and hiring has been frozen across the board. I'm not saying layoffs are definitely coming, but I've seen this movie before at my last job. Anyone else feeling a similar vibe in their department? Or am I just being paranoid?

I'm feeling it too. I'm on the Cash App side and while we haven't had explicit budget cuts, approvals for even minor expenses are taking forever. It's creating bottlenecks and stalling projects. It's hard to stay motivated when you feel like you're constantly fighting for resources. I've started updating my resume just in case – better to be prepared than blindsided.

Honestly, this happens every few years. Block is a volatile company. Remember the TIDAL acquisition? The Afterpay integration? They swing for the fences, then reel it back in when things don't pan out immediately. I wouldn't panic sell your stock options just yet. Focus on being indispensable and proving your value. That's the best job security in any market.
