A few weeks per year does sound a bit standard, but yeah, with tech being what it is and the effort you guys put in, you'd think they'd throw a little more your way. Did you have a recruiter or HR person you could talk to, just to clarify the terms or see if there's any room for negotiation? Sometimes they have a little wiggle room, especially if you push back politely. Don't feel bad for expecting more, it's a big life change.
Honestly, that's pretty much the industry standard right now for most tech companies, especially after the big hiring booms. While it stings, two weeks per year is often the baseline they aim for. It's less about your specific contribution and more about a formula they apply across the board to manage costs during layoffs.
