Hearing some whispers about potential restructuring... anyone else?

Hey all, been at BSC for about 5 years now, in R&D for one of the bigger divisions. Lately, there's been a really strange vibe. Meetings are getting shorter, and there's a lot of hushed talk in the breakroom. My manager is being super cagey, and even skip-level didn't offer much clarity when I probed. No official word, obviously, but it feels like something's brewing. Anyone else picking up on this? Is it just my area or company-wide? Trying not to panic, but it's hard when the atmosphere feels so uncertain. Wondering if anyone has heard anything concrete or has any insight into what might be happening. Is it performance based, or a broader cost-cutting thing? Curious to hear what others are seeing/hearing.

I've been hearing similar murmurs across different departments, though nothing concrete. It's definitely unsettling. My advice? Start updating your resume, just in case. It's always better to be prepared. Don't let the gossip mill spin you into a frenzy, but a little proactive career management never hurt anyone. Keep your ears open, but also focus on your current projects and delivering strong results. That's your best defense right now.

Honestly, I think people are just overreacting to normal business fluctuations. R&D can often feel like a black box. Managers are 'cagey' because they likely don't have all the details themselves, or they're under strict instructions not to share anything until it's official. Every company has these 'vibes' periodically. Unless there are actual layoffs being announced, I'd take the breakroom whispers with a grain of salt and focus on doing your job well.
