Thoughts on the latest NJ cuts?

Curious if anyone has insight into what areas were hit hardest this time. The 265 number is significant, but it’s the quiet nature of these announcements that bothers me the most. We get the usual corporate speak about 'strategic alignment' and 'prioritizing innovation,' but it feels like we’re just cutting muscle at this point, not fat. Does anyone actually believe we have a clear path forward, or are we just rearranging chairs while the ship takes on water? My manager has been acting like everything is normal, but the energy on the team is dead. People are just waiting for the next round of invites. How is everyone handling the uncertainty? I’m finding it impossible to stay motivated on current projects when I have no idea if my role will even exist by Q2 next year.

It is always the same cycle. They use buzzwords like 'strategic alignment' to mask the fact that they are just slashing headcount to appease Wall Street before the next earnings call. I have been through three of these cycles in the past decade, and each time they claim it is to focus on innovation, yet the pipeline seems to be thinning out rather than growing. It is demoralizing to watch talented colleagues get forced out while leadership continues to collect their bonuses. We are definitely just rearranging chairs at this point.

I have been tracking the recent organizational updates, and honestly, the shift seems heavily focused on trimming the legacy research programs to pivot toward newer acquisitions. While the 'strategic alignment' talk is exhausting, I suspect this is more about trying to maintain margins as some of the key patents approach their cliffs. It is a tough environment for everyone involved, but I wouldn't equate it to the ship sinking just yet. These firms are notorious for aggressive restructuring, and while it hurts, it is often a calculated, albeit cold, financial maneuver.
