The lack of transparency is the real killer here. Management keeps using terms like 'right-sizing' to mask the fact that they have no actual roadmap for the remaining remote staff. When they start cutting support roles, the operational friction becomes unbearable for the people still left on the clock. It feels like they are trimming the fat until they hit bone, and nobody wants to be the one stuck holding the bag when they realize the skeleton crew can’t keep up with the volume. Expect more departures before the quarter closes; trust is already non-existent.
I feel for you. I’ve been through a few of these 'restructuring' cycles at larger firms, and it never ends with just one round. If they are gutting departments piece by piece, they are likely just trying to manage the optics and avoid a massive, singular headline. The 'two-hour notice' treatment is standard corporate coldness when they want to prevent any lingering morale issues, but it just creates a culture of constant anxiety for those of us still remote. Keep your resume polished because this clearly isn't the bottom yet.
