Is the rumor mill about the Q3 reorg true?

Has anyone heard anything concrete about the upcoming departmental shifts? My manager has been acting incredibly cagey lately during our 1:1s, and every time I bring up the project roadmap for the next quarter, they just say we’ll 'know more soon.' It’s getting exhausting. I’ve noticed a lot more 'deep dive' audits into our billable hours and team utilization metrics over the past two weeks, which usually precedes something unpleasant. Are we looking at a genuine headcount reduction or just another round of forced internal rotations to make it look like we're trimming fat? I'm debating whether to start quietly updating the resume now or wait until after the town hall. The lack of transparency is killing morale, and honestly, I just want to know if I should be prepared for a surprise calendar invite next week.

The audits you're seeing are a classic indicator that leadership is preparing for a restructuring or potential headcount reduction. I've been through a few of these at BT, and the cagey behavior from management is usually a sign that they know more than they can officially disclose under HR guidelines. If they’re scrutinizing utilization metrics this closely, start updating your resume now. It’s better to be prepared for the worst than to get caught off guard when the formal announcement finally hits your inbox next quarter.

Honestly, I wouldn't panic just yet. Every time a new quarter approaches, the rumor mill kicks into overdrive about reorgs and layoffs, but it’s often just standard operational housekeeping to keep costs in line. The focus on billable hours could just be part of the usual end-of-year efficiency push rather than a precursor to mass departures. Keep your head down and focus on your core deliverables; most of this anxiety is usually just internal noise that fizzles out without impacting the average employee's day-to-day.
