Anyone hearing whispers about Q3 headcounts?

It’s been eerily quiet in my region lately. Usually, we have a stream of emails about new project starts or branch expansion, but the communication has shifted to almost exclusively focused on 'cost discipline' and tightening up margin tracking. I’ve been with BFS for a few years now, and this specific shift in tone usually precedes some kind of corporate restructure. Has anyone else noticed their local leadership getting weirdly defensive about labor hours? I’m seeing some positions that were vacated months ago suddenly getting frozen instead of backfilled. Just trying to figure out if this is localized to my division or if there’s a bigger memo coming down the pipeline. I don’t want to be caught off guard if they start thinning out the overhead again.

Same vibe over here. My branch manager stopped talking about growth targets entirely and won't stop harping on overtime hours. It feels like they're trying to make the numbers look pretty for the next quarterly report by squeezing us thin. I’ve seen two open roles get frozen in the last week without any explanation. Definitely feels like the calm before the storm. I’m already polishing up my resume just in case they decide to cut deep.

You aren’t imagining it. I’ve been through a few of these cycles at BFS, and the 'cost discipline' memo is basically the industry standard code for impending layoffs. When they get obsessed with margin tracking and start nitpicking labor efficiency, it’s rarely because things are going great. It’s about making the balance sheet look leaner for the shareholders. Keep your head down, but start looking around. The writing is clearly on the wall if you know how to read these internal shifts.
