Anyone else hearing whispers about headcount freezes?

Hey all, been at Cap One for a few years now, and things have felt... weird lately. Not seeing any official announcements or anything concrete, but the vibe in my org has definitely shifted. Hiring has slowed to a crawl, and a lot of internal chatter about potential headcount freezes or even restructuring. Anyone else in different departments picking up on similar signals? Feels like more than just standard seasonal slowdown. Wondering if it's related to the Discover deal integration or something else entirely. Just trying to gauge the temperature out there. Feels like we're all holding our breath a bit.

I'm not in a position to confirm anything, but I've definitely noticed a slowdown in hiring requisitions being approved lately. It feels like there's a lot more scrutiny on every new hire request than usual. My team's been told to be extra judicious with any open roles we have. Makes you wonder what the broader strategy is, especially with the ongoing integration efforts.

Interesting you bring this up. My experience aligns with what you're saying. While I haven't heard any direct talk of a freeze, the pace of onboarding new talent has certainly decelerated. It's possible things are being re-evaluated as the Discover integration progresses, or perhaps there's a shift in strategic priorities that's impacting resource allocation. It's definitely a topic of much speculation among colleagues.
