Riverwoods site officially gutted. What now?

It’s been a brutal week since the WARN notice dropped. Watching the Riverwoods campus go from a bustling hub to a ghost town in a matter of hours is surreal. I’ve been with the team since the merger process started, and honestly, the 'synergy' they promised feels a lot like just trimming the fat until there’s nothing left but bone. Leadership keeps sending out these 'business as usual' emails, but how are we supposed to focus when 2,400 of our colleagues are packing up their desks? I’ve seen people crying in the breakout rooms and managers who clearly have no answers other than 'HR will reach out.' If you’re still waiting for a calendar invite, I truly hope you make the cut, but keep your resume updated regardless. This place has lost its soul, and I don't think it's coming back anytime soon.

It really is surreal walking through the halls today. Seeing empty cubicles where people used to be just days ago makes the whole 'synergy' pitch feel like a sick joke. I’ve been trying to stay focused on my deliverables, but the morale here is completely shattered. Management keeps pushing these optimistic internal communications, yet they completely ignore the human cost of these layoffs. It’s hard to imagine what the culture will even look like in another six months if they keep cutting this deep. Just waiting for the other shoe to drop at this point.

I saw the news yesterday and honestly, it’s not surprising given the current climate. Capital One has been pivoting hard toward automation and remote workflows for a long time, and unfortunately, the physical campuses are the first to go when they want to cut costs quickly. It’s brutal for those impacted, and the corporate speak in those emails is always hollow. At this stage, you have to look out for yourself and update your resume. Loyalty doesn't exist anymore, especially when you're just a line item on a balance sheet.
