Is it just me, or does it feel like morale has completely evaporated? Between the constant threat of RTO and the relentless stream of layoff news, I spend half my day waiting for the other shoe to drop instead of actually working. Every time a calendar invite pops up from a director I don't recognize, my heart rate spikes. They sold us on this culture of 'innovation' and 'tech-first' banking, but lately, it just feels like we're all playing musical chairs with our job security. The Riverwoods news today was just the final nail in the coffin for any remaining sense of 'psychological safety' we had. I’m honestly starting to look at external offers even if the market is rough, because I can’t handle the anxiety of checking WARN notices every single Friday morning. Does anyone actually think the leadership has a roadmap for us, or are we just coasting until the next round of headcount reductions?

It has definitely shifted. I remember when the focus was actually on engineering excellence and solving complex problems, but now the culture is just pure anxiety. You can feel the shift in the office during those mandatory RTO days; nobody is collaborating, everyone is just staring at their screens waiting for an email notification. It used to be a place where you could build a career, but now it feels like you're lucky to just make it to the next quarterly review without your access being revoked.

Honestly, stop looking for meaning in a corporate machine that only cares about its bottom line. The 'tech-first' branding was always a clever recruitment tactic to get smart people to do backend banking work for less than big tech pay. Take the paycheck, do the bare minimum, and keep your resume polished. You aren't losing your mind—the institutional memory is being gutted by people who don't know the tech stack. Prioritize your mental health over a company that sees you as a spreadsheet row.
