Cargill rumor mill: Should we be worried?

Seeing a lot of whispers on other boards about a potential restructure in the ag supply chain side of things. Does anyone have actual intel? My skip-level mentioned that we need to be 'more agile' during last week's town hall, and he refused to answer a direct question about headcount projections for 2025. I’ve been through a re-org here before, and the pattern is identical. The sudden push for 'operational efficiency' is always the prelude to a Tuesday morning email that nobody wants to receive. I’m not seeing any official WARN notices yet, but that doesn't mean much given how they handle these things. If you're in the commodity trading or supply chain roles, have you noticed any changes in travel budgets or hiring freezes? Trying to gauge if I should stay put or start taking recruiters' calls again. The silence from HR is deafening, which honestly makes it worse.

The 'operational efficiency' buzzword is the classic corporate red flag. I've been with the company long enough to know that when leadership starts dodging headcount questions during town halls, the layoff lists are already finalized in HR. If your skip-level is being vague, it’s not because they don’t know; it’s because they’ve been coached to keep the ship quiet until the paperwork is ready. Update your resume now and start networking outside the firm. It’s better to be prepared and disappointed than to be blind-sided on a random Tuesday morning.

Honestly, take a breath. Every large ag business goes through these cycles of 'agility' talks every couple of years. It’s usually just standard corporate posturing to appease shareholders who want to see tighter margins. While a restructure is possible, jumping to conclusions based on a generic town hall phrase is a recipe for unnecessary stress. Focus on your current deliverables and keep your head down. If there is actually a major shift coming, you’ll have plenty of time to react once the official internal memos drop, not just based on board-room rumors.
