Feeling the pressure to do more with less

The workload in our department has tripled over the last two months, but nobody is getting replaced when they jump ship. It’s constant 'do more with less' talk from upper management, and it’s honestly burning everyone out. We’re being told that we need to hit these aggressive sales and efficiency metrics, but with a skeleton crew, it’s practically impossible without pulling massive overtime. I’m starting to wonder if this is an intentional strategy to keep us lean before they announce some kind of 'reorganization' or cost-cutting measures. It feels like they’re trying to force attrition so they don't have to pay severance. If I have to explain one more time why the software isn't keeping up with the volume, I’m going to lose it. Just venting, but seriously, keep your eyes open if you're in the same boat.

This is exactly how it starts. I’ve been through this cycle at CarMax before, and it’s always the same script. They squeeze the remaining staff to see how much productivity they can milk out of a skeleton crew before they start the next round of 'restructuring.' Don’t kill yourself for a company that views you as an easily replaceable cog in the machine. It’s not your job to compensate for their poor planning or their refusal to backfill positions. Look out for yourself first and start documenting your hours—you’re clearly being set up for failure.

I hear you loud and clear. That 'do more with less' motto is just corporate speak for 'we want to boost the quarterly earnings report at the expense of your mental health.' It’s absolutely intentional, and they know exactly what they’re doing by stretching everyone thin. If you’re already burning out, it’s time to stop pulling that extra overtime. If the metrics aren’t being hit because of a staff shortage, that is a management problem, not a personal one. Start polishing up your resume tonight; you deserve better than this grind.
