Is anyone actually safe at CAT right now?

Honestly, the culture here has shifted so much in the last year. It feels like every month there’s a new round of 'restructuring' or 'efficiency optimizations.' Seeing the news about the 57 layoffs effective in July just confirms my suspicion that no department is truly shielded, regardless of how much revenue you’re bringing in. Management loves to talk about 'agility' and 'long-term strategy,' but it’s becoming glaringly obvious that we’re just numbers on a spreadsheet being adjusted to satisfy Wall Street. I’ve been here for five years and I’ve never felt this level of anxiety. I’m starting to look at other companies in the sector, but the market feels sluggish everywhere. For those of you who have been through the cycle before, does it ever stabilize, or is this just the new permanent state of the company? I’m tired of looking over my shoulder every time a town hall gets announced.

It is exhausting reading these posts, but they are necessary. I’ve been with the company for over a decade, and the current atmosphere is the most toxic I have ever experienced. Everything is being gutted in the name of shareholder value. I used to be proud to wear the logo, but now I’m just waiting for the inevitable invite to a meeting that could have been an email—or worse, a meeting that ends my career here. Keep your head down and your resume updated.

You hit the nail on the head. The 'agility' buzzword is just corporate speak for 'we want to cut overhead without admitting we are losing direction.' It doesn't matter if your unit is profitable; if you aren't part of the latest high-level initiative, you are on the chopping block. The lack of transparency from leadership is what kills morale more than the cuts themselves. People are leaving in droves because they are tired of being treated like disposable assets.
