Anyone else noticing the travel freeze?

Is it just my department, or is the travel ban getting tighter across the board? Usually, by this time in Q3, we’d have all sorts of site visits and cross-training sessions locked in for the next quarter. Now, every single T&E request I submit is getting kicked back for 'additional review' by finance. It feels like they are tightening the belt intentionally to make the margin look better before the end of the year. My lead keeps saying it’s just 'fiscal prudence,' but we’ve heard that song and dance before. Has anyone heard if this is localized to our site or if it’s a corporate-wide mandate? I’m starting to get that nervous pit in my stomach again. I’ve been through two restructurings already, and the vibes right now are eerily similar to 2020. Trying to decide if I should start polishing the resume this weekend or if I’m just being paranoid. Any input from the home office folks?

It's definitely not just your department. I've been seeing the exact same thing in our division, and it's practically impossible to get any non-essential travel approved right now. Management is definitely squeezing the budget to clean up the balance sheet before the fiscal year wraps up. It’s frustrating because we’re losing out on critical face-to-face time with the onsite teams, but when they start calling it 'fiscal prudence,' you know the purse strings are being pulled tight until further notice. Just don't expect it to loosen up until January at the earliest.

Same boat here. My team has had three separate requests blocked in the last two weeks alone, even for projects that directly impact production efficiency. It’s pretty obvious they’re prioritizing the optics of those Q3/Q4 margins over actual operational needs. Everyone knows the drill by now—it's the standard end-of-year scramble to make the numbers look pretty for the shareholders. Just keep your head down and ride it out, because 'additional review' is really just corporate code for 'denied until the budget refreshes.'
