Contractor purge imminent?

Seeing a ton of contractors getting their access badges revoked this week at the main site. Management is playing it cool, saying it’s just the natural end of the maintenance cycle, but it seems a bit more aggressive than usual. Usually, we keep a skeleton crew for the turnarounds, but they seem to be cutting everyone loose way ahead of schedule. When the contractors go, it usually means the headcount budget is being squeezed to protect the core numbers. I talked to a guy in procurement and he mentioned that vendor spend is being scrutinized like I’ve never seen. It’s hard not to look over your shoulder when the parking lot is half-empty compared to last month. If you’re a FTE, are you feeling any extra pressure to log more hours or 'prove value' lately? I feel like the targets are moving, and the internal comms about 'efficiency' are starting to sound like a warning shot. Anyone else seeing this at the other locations, or is my site just being targeted for a trim?

Seen this movie before at the main site. Whenever they start pulling badges this aggressively before the project is even half-finished, it’s a clear signal that the corporate office is panicking about the quarterly bottom line. They are looking to slash operating expenses wherever they can to keep the dividend attractive, and unfortunately, the contractors are always the first ones on the chopping block. Don't expect any transparency from management, they’ll keep selling the 'maintenance cycle' narrative right up until the layoffs hit the permanent staff. Watch your back if you’re next in line for a review.

It’s not just a maintenance cycle. Anyone who has been here long enough knows that when procurement starts tightening the purse strings this hard, the budget deficit is much worse than they are letting on. They are desperate to balance the books and are sacrificing efficiency for short-term gains. If they are dumping all the contractors now, the core employees are likely next on the list for 'restructuring' or 'voluntary' exits. It’s an ugly time to be in the industry, and frankly, I’d be looking for a new role before the ship fully starts to sink.
