Anyone else nervous about potential Q3 layoffs at Schwab?

I know there haven't been any official announcements, but the vibe has been off lately. My team (tech, specifically platform engineering) has been told to 'pause' all non-essential projects, and travel has been completely frozen. This happened before the last round of cuts a couple years ago. Anyone else seeing similar signs? I've been here for 7 years and I'm starting to get that pit in my stomach again. Is it just me being paranoid, or is something brewing? What departments should I watch out for? I'm not trying to cause panic, just trying to get a sense of what others are experiencing so I can start prepping.

I'm feeling the same tension. I'm in a completely different department (compliance), but we've also been told to cut back on spending. It's always hard to tell if it's normal tightening of the belt, or something more. Keep an eye on open positions - if they quietly disappear without being filled, that's usually a red flag. Dust off that resume, just in case. Better to be prepared than caught off guard.

Honestly, this sounds like standard procedure during a market downturn. Schwab has always been pretty conservative with spending. Pausing projects to re-evaluate priorities is not necessarily a sign of layoffs. I wouldn't panic just yet. Remember 2020? We all thought the sky was falling, and things bounced back pretty quickly. Maybe just focus on delivering solid work, and try to ignore the rumors.
