The 'efficiency' narrative is just cover for long-term integration struggles following the TD Ameritrade merger. Leadership keeps selling the idea that we’re optimizing, but it feels more like they are burning out the survivors to appease shareholders. When the headcount drops but the workload stays identical, you know the culture is being sacrificed for margin expansion. Don't expect this to change anytime soon; they've decided this leaner, high-pressure environment is the permanent operating model, and we are just the fuel for their stock price targets.
I honestly think you’re right to be concerned about the new baseline. It feels like we’ve been sprinting for two years, and the finish line keeps moving further away. The constant focus on operational efficiency has effectively killed any remaining institutional knowledge. It’s hard to see a path forward when your daily job is just putting out fires caused by the last round of departures. If you’re looking for a sign that things will return to the 'old' way of doing business, it’s probably best to stop waiting and start looking elsewhere.
