Is the 20% cut rumor actually happening or just speculation?

I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter about a potential 20% headcount reduction circulating on various forums. With the recent WARN notice for the 180 roles in San Ramon, it feels like the rumors are gaining traction, but it’s hard to tell what’s internal anxiety and what’s actually being discussed in the C-suite. Does anyone have any insight on whether this is a phased approach or if there’s a larger wave coming before the end of the year? The uncertainty is arguably worse than the actual layoff. My team is already stretched paper-thin, and if they cut another 20%, we literally won't have the bandwidth to maintain existing projects, let alone innovate. If anyone has legitimate info or has heard anything from leadership that isn't the usual 'business as usual' boilerplate, please share. Just trying to plan my next move before the ship sinks further.

The 20% number seems inflated based on what I’m hearing in the hallways. While the San Ramon notice definitely spiked the anxiety levels, it’s likely a targeted restructuring rather than a blanket cut of that magnitude. Management is notoriously tight-lipped until the last possible second, but the current vibe feels more like a strategic downsizing of specific divisions rather than a company-wide bloodbath. Take the rumors with a grain of salt, but stay prepared just in case the situation shifts after the next earnings call.

It’s always the same story with these rumors until the official emails hit your inbox. People love to speculate and panic, but the company usually favors smaller, phased layoffs over massive waves to keep the stock price stable. Honestly, the best advice is to update your resume and start networking now regardless of whether the 20% figure is accurate. If you’re waiting for transparency from leadership to plan your next move, you’re already behind. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.
