Is the '20% cut' rumor actually materializing?

I’ve been seeing threads popping up everywhere about potential 20% headcount cuts across the company, but I’m trying to figure out how much of this is just typical sector-wide fear-mongering and how much is legitimate insider chatter. We had that small WARN notice for El Segundo recently, but the vibe in my office feels like we’re waiting for the other shoe to drop. Is anyone seeing legitimate movement, or is it just the standard performance review cycle being conflated with downsizing? My manager has been acting weirdly avoidant during 1:1s, and it feels like there’s a total freeze on any new resource requests for our team. I’ve been here long enough to know when the atmosphere shifts, but this feels different. Are other departments seeing actual re-orgs, or are we just operating in a state of permanent low-level anxiety? Just trying to gauge if I should be aggressively polishing the resume this weekend or if I'm just psyching myself out.

I wouldn't bank on the 20% number, but there is definitely a different energy in the halls lately. El Segundo was just the beginning, and leadership is clearly looking for ways to trim fat following the recent acquisitions. It’s not just performance cycle noise this time; they are looking at structural redundancies. Keep your eyes on internal communications next week, but don't panic until you see official movement. It’s all speculation until the emails start hitting inboxes.

Honestly, this sounds like typical industry gossip blowing things way out of proportion. Every time a major oil company does a round of reviews, someone on these boards starts throwing around scary percentages to stir the pot. The company has to balance these assets, and they are always adjusting headcounts based on market conditions. Unless you have actual internal memos or a direct line to someone in HR, take everything you read here with a massive grain of salt.
