I spoke with someone in Lancaster yesterday, and it sounds like the communication has been abysmal. They received minimal info on outplacement services—basically just a packet with contact details for a third-party firm that looks like a generic template. It feels like they are doing the bare minimum to check a legal box while rushing everyone out the door. Don't expect any personalized career counseling or real support from HR; they are clearly just focused on the bottom line and closing this out as fast as possible.
Hang in there. I went through a similar downsizing at another firm, and the 'ice' you're describing in the office is typical of the corporate playbook. Regarding the rumors, management will always deny a larger restructuring until the second wave is already finalized. If you are still there, start updating your resume immediately and document every conversation you have with HR. If they aren't offering outplacement, push back hard during your exit interview—you are entitled to clarity on your transition benefits regardless of how cold they want to play it.
