Is anyone even safe at this point?

I’ve been with Cigna for over five years, and the atmosphere in the office is just suffocating right now. After seeing the WARN notice for the Morris Plains office hit the news, everyone is just staring at their screens waiting for the calendar invite to appear. It feels like every time we turn around, there’s another 'restructuring' or 'efficiency' push that just ends up gutting a department. My manager keeps talking about focusing on our strategic goals, but how can we focus on anything when we don't know if our teams will exist by the end of the quarter? It’s not just the uncertainty; it’s the lack of transparency from leadership. They push the 'One Cigna' narrative while we watch colleagues we’ve worked with for years get walked out or lose access. I’m starting to think the only way to get a raise or actual job security is to jump ship, but the market feels just as volatile. Is it like this across all the regional hubs, or are some departments safer than others? Really losing motivation to put in the extra hours when the loyalty is clearly a one-way street.

I honestly feel for you. I was in a similar position at a different firm a few years back, and that constant, low-level anxiety of waiting for a calendar notification is soul-crushing. It’s hard to stay focused when you’re literally watching your livelihood hang in the balance. Please try to take a moment for yourself tonight away from the screen, even if it feels impossible. Your worth as a human isn't defined by these corporate churn cycles, even if they treat us like line items on a spreadsheet.

Look, it’s not going to get better. The 'strategic goals' talk is just a script they use to keep people working until the very last second. Once the restructuring rumors start hitting the press, the writing is usually already on the wall. Stop burning yourself out for a company that is actively looking for ways to trim your role. Start polishing your resume tonight and network with people outside the company. The sooner you shift your mindset from loyalty to survival, the less trapped you’ll feel.
