Same thing is happening over in our branch. Finance is definitely tightening the purse strings. It seems like a deliberate strategy to wait for people to jump ship on their own so they don’t have to deal with severance packages or bad press. I’ve watched three roles in our office vanish into the 'under review' void over the last sixty days, and the workload is just getting dumped on whoever is left standing. Honestly, it feels like they are pushing us to the breaking point to see how much we can handle before the whole department snaps.
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for those positions to open back up. The directive from corporate has been pretty clear lately: focus on efficiency and stop adding headcount unless it’s absolutely mission-critical for revenue. It’s a classic move to balance the books before the end of the fiscal year without making a public spectacle of layoffs. If you are waiting for a backfill, you might want to look into cross-training or start updating your own resume, because that 'under review' status is essentially a permanent graveyard for open reqs right now.
