Cintas: Anyone else's managers suddenly obsessed with utilization rates?

Lately, my manager has been bringing up 'utilization' in almost every 1:1. It's like they're suddenly hyper-aware of exactly what everyone is doing every minute of the day and if it directly maps to some billable hour or internal metric. We used to have a bit more autonomy and trust to manage our workload, but now it feels like we're constantly being monitored for 'efficiency.' It's also leading to a lot of 're-tasking' where people are pulled off one thing to fill a perceived gap elsewhere, often with tasks that feel less critical. Just wondering if this is a trend I'm seeing in my specific department or if it's a broader Cintas thing?

Yeah, my location has been the same way. It feels like a huge shift from how things used to be. The focus on utilization is definitely noticeable, and it's creating a bit of a stressful atmosphere. It makes you second-guess if you're spending time 'effectively' even on tasks that are crucial but might not have immediate billable hours attached. I miss the days when we had more trust to manage our own projects without this constant scrutiny.

I've seen it too, and it's not just you. This push for utilization seems to be a company-wide thing right now. It's a tough balance, because while efficiency is important, it shouldn't come at the expense of employee morale or the quality of work. Being constantly 'optimized' can feel dehumanizing and makes it hard to focus on building relationships with clients or tackling complex, long-term projects that don't fit neatly into a utilization metric.
