The 'synergy' talk is just management speak for cost-cutting, unfortunately. I’ve been through three of these cycles here over the last decade, and it’s always the same script. They focus on those buzzwords to keep the stock price steady while they crunch the numbers behind closed doors. Honestly, if you're already hitting 50+ hours, they aren't going to fire you easily because you're doing the work of two people. Keep your resume polished just in case, but try not to let the anxiety drain you before they even make a move.
I stopped listening to the town halls a long time ago. It’s always the same vague corporate posturing while the actual ground-level employees are left guessing about their mortgages. If there were actual layoffs coming, they wouldn’t tell us until the day of, so waiting for a straight answer is a waste of energy. Just keep your head down, stack your cash, and make sure you’re networking outside of the company. It’s a job, not a family, and they’ve shown plenty of times that they’ll reorganize the 'operational excellence' right out from under us.
