Am I overthinking the lack of new hires?

Been with Citi for a few years now, and usually, you see a steady stream of new faces, especially in some of the more operational areas. Lately, though, it feels like the tap has been turned off. My team hasn't had anyone new join in months, and I haven't heard any whispers about upcoming hires either. The official line is always about 'strategic realignment' or 'optimizing resources,' but it's starting to feel like more than just a temporary pause. Is anyone else in a similar boat? Is this a broader trend across the bank, or is it just certain departments? Makes you wonder about future growth and investment if they're not bringing in fresh talent. Trying not to jump to conclusions, but the quietness is noticeable. Anyone have any intel or alternative explanations?

I'm seeing something similar across my department, and it's definitely causing some unease. The workload hasn't decreased, and the constant 'optimizing resources' talk starts to sound like a prelude to something more significant. It's hard not to worry when you see the hiring freeze persist for so long, especially when it impacts team capacity and potentially future growth. Hoping it's just a cyclical thing, but it feels different this time.

Yeah, the hiring slowdown is noticeable. I've also heard the 'strategic realignment' buzzwords. Honestly, it feels like they're trying to do more with less, which isn't exactly a new theme in large corporations, but the current quietness on the recruitment front is definitely louder than usual. It's making people wonder about job security and whether the company is actively trimming down rather than just reallocating talent.
