Is anyone hearing anything concrete regarding RIFs in the Institutional Client Group? The air in the office feels incredibly heavy lately. We’ve been told to focus on efficiency, but we all know that corporate-speak usually precedes a round of cuts. My manager has stopped mentioning any new budget approvals for the rest of the year, which is a major red flag for us. It feels like we are doing the work of three people just to keep the lights on, and the lack of communication from leadership is starting to drive everyone crazy. I’m wondering if anyone in the tech or ops divisions has heard rumors about upcoming 'restructuring' efforts before the end of the fiscal year. I’ve already updated my resume just in case, but I’d like to know if I should be panicking now or if I have a few months of runway left. The silence is the worst part.

The quiet from leadership is the loudest signal you're going to get. When they stop talking about growth and start emphasizing 'efficiency,' the HR hammer is already moving. I’ve seen this script play out at Citi before; they wait until the last possible moment to announce it so people don't jump ship too early. If your manager is freezing budget approvals, start dusting off your resume today. It’s better to be ahead of the curve than caught off guard when the calendar invite for a 'team meeting' pops up.

Honestly, the ICG feels like a pressure cooker right now. I’ve been hearing whispers about another layer of management being trimmed to streamline reporting lines, and nobody feels safe. Don't waste energy trying to decode every corporate email—they won't be honest until the layoff notices hit your inbox. Just focus on documenting your recent wins and saving your performance reviews. If things feel off in your department, trust your gut. The atmosphere there is usually the most accurate indicator of what's coming down the pipeline.
