Citi - Performance review cycle feels... different this year

So, performance review season is upon us. Usually, it's a bit of a grind, but this year it feels like there's an extra layer of scrutiny. I've heard from a few people that their managers are being unusually specific about 'areas for development' and 'performance gaps', even for people who have consistently met or exceeded expectations. There's also a lot of emphasis on 'impact' and 'strategic alignment', which is fine, but the tone feels a bit more pointed than usual. Just wondering if anyone else is getting this vibe from their reviews? Trying to gauge if this is a widespread thing or if I'm just in a particularly intense part of the bank.

Yeah, I'm feeling it too. It seems like there's a much tighter focus on justifying every aspect of your role and how it directly ties into the company's current strategic priorities. My manager spent a good chunk of time detailing specific metrics and asking for tangible examples of how my work has moved the needle. It's not necessarily a bad thing to be clear about expectations, but the increased intensity definitely stands out compared to previous years. Curious to see how this plays out come bonus time.
